• The Big Game: Come and play some big games. Kids can enjoy playing Chess with life-sized pieces, giant Dominoes, Bowling, Checkers, Connect Four, and Ball Toss. Build your own log cabin with our unique wooden Builder-Boards. Located in our sunlight-filled connector building, Big Games offers fun, exercise and some strategic thinking, all rolled into one!
• Bugs and Other Insects: Crawl through a human size ant hill and move larvae from chamber to chamber, try on an exoskeleton, watch butterflies being born and bees working on their hive, jam with the Insect Orchestra. Our collection of arthropods will amaze and inform you. Learn why our Madagascar hissing cockroaches and giant African millipedes are called the “recyclers” of the rain forest. Maybe bugs and other insects are not so scary, after all!
• Block Harbor: Come aboard and set sail for an unknown destination, let your imagination guide you. Explore a fantasy port of call on a pirate ship; cross over the bridge and be a lookout on the upper deck, peep through a telescope, ring the bell, navigate the wheel, cook in the galley; make a block city – or just make believe.
• Great Explorations: Explore a rainforest canopy and cave, drive a dogsled in the tundra or dive to the ocean floor, build an igloo, cross a river, walk on snow shoes, host a radio show, drive a submersible. Learn about extreme environments.
• House About It: It's all about the homes people go to, how they are built and the people who build them. Work in our frame house, use the digger and the wrecking ball, work with a real drill, design and decorate. Learn about all the different trades.
• Portia's Playhouse: Take the stage in our authentic theatre with plenty of costumes to help young thespians pretend. Kids can put on skits using props and sound effects to enhance the performance on the real stage. This real theatre is also used for special musical and theatrical performances. (Closed when performances are scheduled)
• Ladder 11: Pretend you’re a firefighter – ring the bell, slide down the pole, try on the turn-out gear, manipulate the gauges, hook up a hose and jump aboard our authentic 1941 Seagrave fire truck, retrofitted for hands-on play and learning.
• Sea Of Boats: Prepare for some wet fun! An outdoor sea-faring, soft surface play-space that features boats, a lighthouse, and a crow's nest with activities including radar, Morse Code, fishing, oystering, water play and other nautical knick-knacks. (Weather permitting)
